THE BOYS’ CLUB: TIME FOR CHANGE

Let’s call it what it is: the “boys’ club” in the music industry is very much alive. This isn’t just about men vs. women, it’s about power, privilege, and exclusion. And yes, some men find themselves on the outside too. To the male allies who stand with us—I see you, and value your solidarity.

This boys’ club is holding us back. It’s costing the industry fresh talent and innovative ideas while disproportionately impacting women. Together, we can dismantle it.

When I worked in the music industry, I loved what I did. But I was frequently talked over, objectified, dismissed, and excluded. I was asked to organise team meetings and events because I was “good at that,” and rarely seen as the authority—even when it was my account.

These weren’t one-offs—they were part of a systemic issue that so many women still face.

The biggest issue? Equity. Women are still getting fewer opportunities, paid less for the same work, and fighting for recognition they’ve more than earned.

The good news? It’s time for change. And I believe in women’s ability to smash through glass ceilings, break barriers, and claim their space. The music industry should be an inclusive, equitable place where women are fully seen, heard, and valued for their brilliance.

Let’s close the gap between the way things are and the way they should be. Change starts with listening, supporting one another, and speaking up. If you feel impacted by this, contact me here —you don’t have to go through it alone.
