GENDER PAY DISPARITY
A conversation I often have with my female clients in the music industry centers around pay disparity. They’re aware they’re being paid less than their male counterparts—whether it’s from a tip-off from a friend in payroll, a stray paycheck left on the copier, or a male colleague revealing his salary.
Yet, many feel powerless to address it. Instead, they believe the answer lies in working harder, proving themselves over and over, hoping recognition will follow. What they don’t realise is their power to speak up and advocate for themselves is right there, waiting to be used.
Here’s the truth: by standing up for their worth, they aren’t just fighting for themselves—they’re paving the way for future generations of women in music. Each time they push back on pay disparity, they chip away at barriers for others to break through.
And while it is the right thing to do, that doesn’t make it easy. Speaking up, making waves, and advocating for yourself can be nerve-wracking. That’s why I’m here—to coach women, help them reclaim their power, find their voice, and demand the respect and pay they’ve rightfully earned. Together, we can close the gap and create a more equitable industry for everyone.
Do you find it easy to advocate for yourself? Have you ever held back, worried about the fallout? I understand it’s a sensitive topic—feel free to email me privately at: sarah@sarahpagecoach.com if you’d like to talk about it.
