WOMEN IN MUSIC: LET’S BE EACH OTHER’s LOUDEST ADVOCATES

The music industry is competitive and known for its challenges, especially for women. One of the biggest hurdles? Often feeling like we’re in it alone, competing for limited seats at the table. It doesn’t have to be this way. What if we redefined success by lifting each other up rather than climbing over one another?

Here are three powerful ways we can create change together:

Advocate for Women When They Aren’t in the Room

If you’re in a meeting and a woman isn’t being credited for her ideas—or isn’t even present—be her voice. Speak up, name her contributions, and make sure her work isn’t overlooked. Advocacy starts with amplifying each other’s brilliance, especially in spaces where our voices are often drowned out.

Build Safe, Communicative Communities and Workplace Cultures

It’s not just about creating opportunities—it’s about creating environments where women feel safe to share their ideas, challenge the status quo, and thrive. Whether it’s through mentorship, inclusive policies, or simply having open, honest conversations, we all have a role to play in creating workplaces where women can truly belong.

Draw Attention to Other Women’s Ideas

In meetings, in brainstorms, or on projects—when you see another woman’s idea being dismissed or ignored, spotlight it. “As [her name] suggested earlier…” or “I think [her name’s] point about X is worth exploring further.” Let’s make sure her voice is heard, loud and clear.

This isn’t about competition; it’s about collaboration. When we show up for one another, we don’t just build stronger teams—we build a stronger industry.

To all the women in music reading this: Your ideas matter. Your voice matters. And together, we can create an industry where women are celebrated, and are leading the way. How do you advocate for other women in your workplace? Let’s share ideas and keep this conversation going.
