SURVIVING HOLIDAY PARTIES IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

Holiday season is here, and the invites are rolling in—music industry mixers, office parties and gigs. It’s meant to be the most wonderful time of the year, but let’s be honest—sometimes, it’s just a lot.

I remember those industry Christmas parties— bands like Blur hanging out at the bar, big personalities everywhere, and a lot of unspoken pressure to “be on.” Sure, it was fun, but there were definitely moments in December when I wished I was just at home in my PJs.

If this time of year feels daunting, you’re not alone. Music industry events can sometimes feel like stepping into a room full of egos. So here’s a reminder: you don’t have to prove yourself to anyone. Go to the events that feel right for you, and bring a friend who has your back—the kind of friend who’ll step in when a conversation gets tricky or help you steer clear of someone’s “big personality.”

It’s OK to leave early. It’s OK to not go at all. And it’s OK to stand quietly, with or without a drink, and just observe. You’ve worked hard all year, and you deserve to celebrate the Holidays on your terms.
