MOTHER’s DAY REFLECTIONS
Today is Mother’s Day in the UK.
When you’re far from home, it hits differently, or at least, it does for me.
Maybe it’s age, maybe it’s perspective, but I find myself thinking more about what my mum sacrifice; and how she didn’t always have all the answers.
Also, the older I get, the more I see how different all our paths can be; and how much women are still expected to explain or justify them.
I’ve chosen not to be a mother. And I know that, as women, we’re judged every day - whether we're mothers, aren’t mothers, want to be, or never did.
Too loud. Too quiet.
Too ambitious. Not ambitious enough.
Putting family first. Putting career first.
Whatever we choose, there’s often an opinion waiting.
Here's what I'd like to say:
Whatever your path; whether you’re raising children, raising a business, raising your voice, or figuring it out as you go; you are enough.
I coach women in music who are navigating all of it.
Motherhood. Identity. Ambition. Guilt. Joy. Exhaustion. Love. Choice. Freedom.
And what I see, time and time again, is this:
You’re doing better than you think.
You're not alone.
We're in this together.
Different choices, same respect. That's the kind of sisterhood I believe in.
